VETERINARIAN APPRECIATION WEEK

The High Country is so fortunate to have such skilled, dedicated, and compassionate veterinarians who take care of the animals we love.  Veterinarian Appreciation Week is Feburary 1st-7th.  Take this opportunity to say "Thank You" to your veterinarian and office staff.

 UPCOMING PET FOOD DRIVES

Help us keep our shelter's pet food pantry stocked!  Our next Pet Food Drive will be held on Friday, February 26th from 3:00-7:00pm in front of the Harris Teeter store at the Shops at Shadowline in Boone.  Watauga Humane Society volunteers will be on hand accepting donations of both dry and canned dog and cat food.  Our thanks goes out to all who help ensure the success of our pet food pantry program.

$30 to fix male and female dogs and cats

Watauga Humane Society has a fabulous limited-time offer for Watauga County residents: $30 to fix your male AND female dogs or cats (regularly $55 for dogs, $50 for female cats, and $35 for male cats).  Cats are going into heat right now, and kittens and puppies as young as 5 months old can have litters of their own. A female cat can have as many as three litters a year. There aren’t enough homes for all the kittens and puppies that will be born this spring and summer. If you don’t want that “oops” litter, fix your female dogs and cats NOW – before they become pregnant.  If you are a Watauga County resident with financial need and think you can’t afford $30, call us to talk about a better deal.  Fixed dogs and cats are healthier, better behaved, and live longer. They are less likely to fight, bite, spray or stray. Don’t you want these benefits for you and your pets? Call Watauga Humane Society, 828/264-7865, Tuesday – Friday 12:30 – 6, Saturday and Sunday 12:30 – 5, closed Monday. www.wataugahumanesociety.org.

Another Way to Help

This year is proving to be an especially challenging one for many from a weather and financial perspective. Our sincere thanks goes out to all the wonderful people who have donated pet food to our shelter's pet food pantry.  Another way to help keep our pantry stocked is to share pet food discount coupons.  They can be mailed to us at PO Box 1835, Boone NC 28607, or dropped by at the shelter on your next visit.
The Watauga Humane Soceity stocks a pet food pantry to provide temporary assistance to financially-troubled families with pets to help ensure the animals can stay in their homes rather than be abandoned or surrendered. Pet food can be picked up at the shelter during business hours. If you are a Meals on Wheels recipient and would like to sign up for pet food delivery please call the shelter at 828.264.7865.

 HEART TO HEART BLANKET DRIVE

So many of our county's homeless animals have had a warm, soft place to spend their cold winter days and nights because of your generous donations of blankets!  Due to a record number of homeless animals, we need a record number of blankets.....the blankets get a lot of wear and tear and do not last as long as one might think.
Blankets may be dropped off here at our shelter, and also at The Pet Place, Joe's Italian Kitchen, the Watauga County Public Library, Adam's Lumber and Hardware, and at the WATA radio station. If you need a pick-up, you may call Cindy at 828/406-3328.  All blankets will be distributed to the Watauga Humane Society, Animal Care & Control and Friends for Life.
