FOND FAREWELLS
This summer, the Watauga Humane Society is saying goodbye to two valued members of our staff. In May, John Graves, our Kennel Manager, married his sweetheart, Kayleigh, and the newlyweds have moved back to the Outer Banks to be closer to their families. John accepted the position of Manager of an animal shelter in Elizabeth City, NC. Nicole Carper, our Assistant Shelter Manager, was recruited by Blue Ridge Humane Society in Hendersonville, NC to become the Director of Operations of that facility, a wonderful advancement and opportunity for her. She will begin that position at the end of the month. Both John and Nicole have been employed at our local shelter for several years and will be greatly missed by Watauga Humane Society members and frequent visitors. Their leaving, however, provided a promotional opportunity for one part-time employee, Lauren Payne, who is now full-time Lead Animal Care Technician, and also allowed for the hiring of Tara Keller, who is now our full-time Office Manager. Both Lauren and Tara are highly qualified in their respective fields, allowing shelter business to continue without missing a beat. We encourage you to extend congratulations to both on your next shelter visit. Our sincere thanks go out to John and Nicole for the huge contributions they made to the Watauga Humane Society, along with best wishes to them as they contribute to the welfare of animals outside of our region. Goodbye and Good Luck!!
PET FOOD COLLECTION
The Watauga Humane Society maintains a Pet Food Pantry to provide temporary assistance to financially-troubled families, and to shut-ins and the elderly, helping to insure they can continue caring for their pets in their homes and not be forced to abandon or surrender them. Collecting dog and cat food is an ongoing activity. The next time you are out shopping, won't you consider purchasing a few cans of dog or cat food, or a bag of dry food to donate to our pantry? Board member, Cindy Cafaro, has set up convenient pet food collection points around town, including the main branch of the Watauga Public Library, RBC Centura Bank on King Street downtown, Joe's Italian Kitchen at 190 Boone Heights Drive, and the WATA Radio Station on Blowing Rock Road. Also, consider bringing a can or two of pet food each time you visit our shelter. Neighbors helping neighbors is what makes our community such a terrific place to live!
